Opening Day – the official start of Seattle’s Boating Season!

Opening-Day-2015It is a Seattle tradition to celebrate Opening Day the first Saturday in May… this Saturday, May 2nd 2015! This year’s theme is Myths & Monsters and it’s no myth that Opening Day in Seattle has become the nation’s monstrous regional celebration of the water and the joy of boating.

Whether you are taking in Opening Day festivities from the shoreline or by boat while tied to the infamous log boom there is much to see. Exciting rowing and paddling races of course. And a wide array of yachts decorated in the Myths & Monsters theme will parade through Montlake Cut. Many of those on the shore will be dreaming of the day they own boats of their own. And those on the log boom will experience the unique satisfaction of boat ownership.

Jamie McPherson who ordered his new construction 38 Pilothouse was a participant in the offloading at the Port of Seattle — a unique and exciting event.

In addition to several design updates in the latest evolution of this popular model, Jamie’s boat adds customizations including sport rails for kayak storage atop the pilothouse, a washer/dryer in the day head, and a home-sized under-cabinet microwave oven.

Sneak-Peak-31-PreppingThat’s right! This is the last Sneak Peek blog for the first new 31 Camano as it leaves the Helmsman Trawlers factory. What a beauty! This (Fighting Lady) Yellow-hulled 31 is being shipped to Norfolk, VA for a couple very excited to own the first new 31 Camano. Waterline Boats in Seattle is expecting the second boat — its demo model — this summer.

Helmsman Trawlers 31 Camano uses Hyundai SeasAll Engine

Hyundai-Engine-GuyHelmsman Trawlers is one of the first US yacht brands to use the HYUNDAI SEASALL S-Series engines. And WOW — this is an impressive engine!

This 3.0 liter V6 common-rail diesel engine was designed specifically for marine applications, and has a proven track record of reliable operation and low maintenance costs in Europe and Asia. Having recently earned US EPA Tier 3 emissions certification this beautifully-engineered engine is now available in the US.

We are impressed with its smooth, quiet operation. Especially notable is the nearly vibration-free operation at low RPM — compare this to any of the four-cylinder diesels in this horsepower or displacement range, which make a boat feel like life-sized electric football.

And we’re also wowed by its many design features including a readily-accessible raw water pump, a built-in electric oil change pump, integral water-in-fuel sensor, and comprehensive dashboard instrumentation. This compact package fits beautifully into the Helmsman Trawlers 31 Camano engine room, and because of its V6 configuration it allows for excellent access forward and aft of the engine.

Hyundai brags about the use of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) for the cylinder block, stating that it is lighter and quieter than conventional grey cast iron, while demonstrating much higher tensile strength, stiffness and fatigue strength than steel or aluminum. Real-world experience has proven this to to be a very long-lasting block in commercial applications, like in the iconic canal boats of Venice.

Specifically for Helmsman Trawlers Hyundai is providing a special 240 hp continuous duty version of the S270 engine — a perfectly-matched and hardy powerplant.

Dealers and service agents for this engine are rapidly increasing throughout the US under the national distributor Performance Diesel Inc.

You’ll find us on Dock C where we are displaying this beautiful blue hulled, with white topsides and shiny stainless rails vessel. This well-outfitted low hours trawler appears in excellent condition on its exterior as well as its interior and is a MUST SEE!

Once you step aboard you will see that the roomy interior design gives the feeling of being on a much larger boat than what the model number implies. The warmth and elegance of the teak and holly and the quality and craftsmanship of the joinery are sure to impress.

Our agents will be happy to point out the many unique features of the pilothouse design. The hide-away storage, great visibility from the pilothouse helm and throughout, the day head off the salon and the separate head and shower in the master stateroom just to name a few.

This boat was originally imported and sold as a Mariner Yachts International 37 Seville Pilothouse, the predecessor to the current Helmsman Trawlers® 38 Pilothouse. We are excited about the Helmsman Trawlers 31 Camano debuting in its first TrawlerFest and enthused to present all the updates and enhancements to a well-known design. The original Camano was highly regarded for its outstanding hull, sea-keeping abilities and economy at a range of speeds. Helmsman Trawlers has updated the lines, thoughtfully redesigned the interior, and developed a true bantam trawler yacht at a remarkable price!

Some distinctive features include a beautiful and luxurious master suite with generous (and separate!) head and shower compartments, sizable galley with plentiful storage, large fridge/freezer, bountiful lighting and visibility, and gorgeous interior craftsmanship.
